We arrived in Anchorage a day earlier than expected, so we
took advantage of that time doing wash and cleaning up the moho and toad. It wasn't long after arrival we visited our
kids and grandson. That was our favorite
part of the whole trip.....meeting our grandson and getting to know him. Here are a few pictures of our week in
Anchorage:
Precious Angel....
Like father...like son...
It is rare we are all together. Taking family pictures makes these times special.
We celebrated Monika's Birthday the day before we left for home.
Saying goodbye to such a precious angel is hard to do.
One of our adventures was to eat out at the Sourdough Mining Company which included the big folks sampling the local Alaska Beer. Jackson was a good sport about participating in all our adventures.
After reviewing a lot of tourist information, we had to go see the Chocolate Fountain which is located across the street from the Sourdough Mining Company. Unfortunately, no samples were allowed. Look...do not touch.
This place had some huge stuffed animals that that insisted we take pictures of them..... Typical tourist stuff.
One of the highlights of the entire week was when the weather finally cleared enough to go on a family hike to the top of the hill in Arctic Valley. This is a recreation and ski area that is shared with the Ft Richardson and Elmendorf AFB and local community. We hiked a total of 3 miles all above the tree line. The view from the top was spectacular. I felt like we were in a scene from the Sound of Music.
Anchorage has a downtown market every weekend. This is another "must-do" for the tourists that visit the area. The only thing we purchased was some sourdough starter and a cookbook. We are looking forward to getting a batch of sourdough going when we get home.
After spending 11 days in Anchorage, we felt it was time to
begin our journey home and let our kids settle into a routine with our grandson
before Monika returns to work in 3 weeks.
We had a wonderful time visiting with them and look forward to their
visits to Georgia later this year.
